Sensex falls 166.33 pts

Mumbai, Dec 14 (Agency) The BSE Sensex on Tuesday slid further 166.33 pts to settle at 58,117.09 as selling was seen in Telecom, Energy, Auto and Finance stocks. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell 43.31 pts at 17,324.90. Slumping 503 pts on Monday, the BSE Sensex dropped 224 pts to open at 58,059.76. It dropped nearly 480 pts to 57,803.87, which was the day’s low. In late trade it slightly improved from day’s low figure and closed at 58,117.09, down 166.33 pts from its previous close. The Sensex registered day’s high and low at 58,322.42 and 57,803.87 respectively.

The Nifty recorded the day’s high and low at 17,376.20 and 17,225.80 pts respectively. The sectoral indices like Telecom, Energy, Auto and Finance stocks dragged the market further. Telecom slipped by 1.37 pc followed by Energy by 0.71 pc, Auto by 0.87 pc and Finance by 0.71 pc. In scrips, ITC slipped by 2.73 pc to Rs 228.30, a major loser in 30 scrips of BSE. Other losers were Bajaj Finance by 2.10 pc to Rs 7068.65, Kotak Bank by 1.75 pc to Rs 1840.45, Bharti Airtel by 1.61 pc to Rs 691.60 and Reliance Industries by 1.22 pc to Rs 2480.40. The gainers were Powergrid by 3.84 pc to Rs 212.30, Axis Bank by 0.94 pc to Rs 710.70, Nestle India by 0.88 pc to Rs 19,169 and Dr Reddy’s Lab by 0.78 pc to Rs 4634.20. The Mid Cap declined by 0.37 pc and Small Cap rose by 0.05 pc. In 30 scrips, 16 advanced while 14 declined.
