Mumbai, Dec 13 (FN Agency) The BSE Sensex on Monday tanked 503.25 pts to settle at 58,283.42 as selling was seen in Energy, Realty, Oil and Gas and Telecom stocks. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too fell 143.05 pts at 17,368.25. High volatility was seen in the equity market today, as the BSE Sensex surged 217 pts to open at 59,103.72 pts. It rallied by 437 pts to reach 59,203.37, which was the day’s high. Later, it dropped 544 pts to reach 58242, which is an 80 day low, before closing at 58,283.42, sliding 503.28 pts from its previous close. The Sensex registered days high and low at 59,203.37 and 58,242.80 respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 17,639.50 and 17,355.95 pts respectively.
The sectoral indices like Energy, Realty, Oil and Gas and Telecom stocks dragged the market. In scrips, Bajaj Finance slipped by 3.10 pc to reach Rs 7220.10, a major loser in 30 scrips of BSE. Other losers were Bajaj Finserv by 2.14 pc to reach Rs 17,343.50, Reliance Industries by 2 pc to close at Rs 2409.80, M&M by 1.94 pc to reach Rs 843 and Nestle India by 1.51 pc to Rs 18,982.25. The gainers were Axis Bank by 2.38 pc to close at Rs 704.05, Tech Mahindra by 2.20 pc to close at Rs 1637.85 and Powergrid by 0.91 pc to close at Rs 204.45. The Mid Cap fell by 0.53 pc while Small Cap rose by 0.24 pc. In 30 scrips, seven advanced while 23 fell. Mixed trend was seen in Asian markets as Nikkei and Shanghai were up 0.7 per cent each, while, Kospi and Taiwan slipped 0.3 per cent.
