EU Commission discusses travel, adapted vaccine amid Omicron concerns

Brussels, Dec 10 (FN Agency) The European Commission on Friday deliberated on possible review of travel measures and issues related to the development of adapted vaccines to combat the Omicron strain. “Today’s meeting of Commissioners on Covid-19 discussed protection from Omicron with vaccination and boosters, developing adapted vaccines if necessary, ensuring long-term supply of vaccines with HERA [European Health Emergency preparedness and Response Authority], update on travel measures, speeding up delivery of donated vaccines,” President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen said on Twitter.

The new strain was first detected in South Africa in late November. Since then, over 330 cases of Omicron variant have been detected across the EU, the majority of which are linked to people who made trips to southern African countries where the Omicron strain was first detected.
