New Delhi, Dec 6 (Bureau) Hero MotoCorp, the exclusive distributor of Harley-Davidson in India, has launched the American company’s new sport custom motorcycle, the Sportster S at a starting price of Rs 15,51,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). The Sportster S bike, an addition to the 2021 Harley-Davidson motorcycle line-up, was unveiled at the special edition of the India Bike Week. The Sportster models have been the foundation on which the Harley-Davidson brand was built in India, points out Ravi Avalur, Head of Harley-Davidson business unit in Hero MotoCorp. “Along with the new Pan America 1250, the Sportster S will strengthen our portfolio of Harley-Davidson products and cater to a wider spectrum of Indian customers.” The bike is designed to deliver improved power and performance, elevating the entire riding experience.
With a taut, lightweight chassis and premium suspension, riders can expect responsive, intuitive handling on a stylish and powerful ride. With premium features, and innovative technology, the next generation Sportster S has a 121-horsepower Revolution Max 1250T V-Twin engine designed to deliver strong acceleration from a start with robust power through the mid-range. The model is equipped with three pre-programmed, selectable ride modes (sport, road and rain) to electronically control the performance characteristics of the motorcycle and the level of technology intervention. Two custom modes may be used by the rider to create a set of performance characteristics to meet personal preference or for special situations. The riders can choose from an array of Sportster S model accessories and paint colors – vivid black; stone washed white pearl; midnight crimson.
The American manufacturer, had in September 2020, announced its decision to discontinue its sales and manufacturing operations in India, abandoning the world’s biggest motorcycle market with closure of its Bawal plant in Haryana. It had then joined hands with Hero MotoCorp to sell its motorcycles in the Indian market. Hero Motocorp and Harley-Davidson have expanded the touch points for present and prospective buyers of the American heritage motorcycle brand.
