Parmjeet Kumar bags bronze at Para Powerlifting World Championships

Tbilisi, Nov 28 (Agency) India para powerlifter Parmjeet Kumar clinched a bronze medal at the World Championships 2021 here in Tbilisi, Georgia on Sunday. He bettered his personal best 146kg by lifting 158kg in the 49kg weight category and earned a podium finish. Egypt’s Omar Qarada won gold by lifting 174kg, while Van Cong Le of Vietnam settled for silver with 170kg lift. The 29-year-old Parmjeet has bagged a bronze at the 2018 Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

In the year 2019, he went on to win gold in the senior Para Powerlifting Championship by lifting a total weight of 140kg. The Indian took up powerlifting in 2009 and became a national champion in 2015 and 2016. He marked his international debut in 2015 Asian Championships. A total of 10 Indians including five men and as many women are participating at the World Championships, which began on November 27 in Georgia.
