New Delhi, Nov 21 (FN Bureau) A Nigerian man who was allegedly involved in cheating through hacking of Whatsapp accounts was busted by the Delhi Police on Saturday. The gang led by one Okwudiri Paschal (40), was arrested when he was withdrawing the cheated amount from an ATM in Bangalore, said Deepak Yadav, DCP, New Delhi. The police got a complaint from Ranglal Jamuda on November 2 that he received a Whatsapp message that the facilities on Whatsapp were being upgraded for which system was generating a 6 digit code and as soon as complainant typed on his mobile followed by 6 digit code provided by that person the Whatsapp screen of complainant became nonfunctional and his Whatsapp was allegedly hacked by the accused, said Yadav.
He alleged that the hacker started sending messages to his relatives through Whatsapp and requested for transfer of the amount on different grounds. Bank account numbers of Federal Bank and IDBI Bank were provided by the accused for transferring the amount. After that a case was registered and the probe was initiated, said Yadav. During the investigation, the team scrutinized the bank account details provided by the accused at length and it was revealed that the accused were luring numerous victims on different grounds and were inducing them to transfer money in bank accounts. It was also revealed that the accused were changing their Bank accounts regularly in order to escape from police. It was also come to know that as soon as any victim transferred the amount in the bank, the same was being withdrawn from different ATMs in Banaswadi, Bangalore. On the basis of these inputs a trap was laid by cops on Tuesday when the accused Okwudiri reached the ATM, the sleuths of Delhi Police swung into action and arrested him, police said.
