Rahul writes letter to farmers, says ‘struggle is not over yet’

New Delhi, Nov 19 (Representative) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday said the ‘Satyagraha’ against the ‘anti-farmer black laws’ is unique in the history of independent India. The former Congress president made this statement in his open letter addressed to the farmers, hours after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced to repeal the farm laws in the upcoming Winter session of Parliament. “Many-many congratulations on the ‘historic’ victory. While fighting the arrogance of an autocratic ruler with the ‘Gandhian’ way, you forced him (PM Narendra Modi) to withdraw the decision, it is a perfect example of triumph of truth over falsehood. I bow down to the sacrifices made by more than 700 farmers in this struggle,” Rahul wrote.

He, however, said the struggle is not over yet on various issues, including guaranteed minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce, repealing the Electricity Amendment Act and finding a lasting solution to the debt-ridden farmers, which was a serious matter and needed urgent consideration. The Congress MP assured the ryots that he and his party workers will always support the farmers in their struggles on such issues and that Congress will not fail them. He said the current dispensation needs to understand that a farmer understands his profit and loss best. “I request the Prime Minister not to repeat this impulsive act of forcing the peasant to become a slave in his own farm land, while playing in the hands of a few capitalists and proving this as a correct decision,” he wrote in his letter.
