STF arrest two drug peddlers, seize brown sugar worth over Rs.1 cr

Bhubaneswar, Nov 9 (Agency)The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch have arrested two drug peddlers and seized brown sugar worth over Rs one crore from their possession. The drug peddlers were nabbed near vegetable market Nayabazar under Sahadevkhunta Police station of Balasore district. STF identified the two drug peddlers as Bappi alias Ashok Kumar Behera and Bijay Kumar Yadav. While Bapi belongs to Nayabazar area, Bijay hails from Bihar. Both the accused were forwarded to the court of Special judge cum district and Session judge Balasore on Monday, STF sources said here today.

On the basis of intelligence input, a raid was conducted by a team of STF, Bhubaneswar near vegetable market, Naya Bazar on November 7 last and the drug peddlers were arrested. During the search Brown Sugar weighing 01 Kg 052 gram and other incriminating materials were recovered and seized from the possession of the drug peddlers.A case was registered U/s. 21(c)/29 NDPS Act, 1985 against them and investigation is on. Since 2020, a special drive against narcotic drugs, the STF had seized more than 43 Kg of Brown Sugar, over 86 quintals of Ganja and arrested more than 100 drug peddlers.
