SKM calls for nationwide protest today

New Delhi, Oct 25 (FN Representative) Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), the umbrella body of several farm unions, will hold protest across the country on Tuesday, demanding the arrest and dismissal of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Mishra Teni in connection with the UP’s Lakhimpur Kheri incident and also to mark the completion of 11 months of their ‘movement’ against the Centre over the new farm laws. The protest will be observed at tehsil and district headquarters between 1100 hours and 1400 hours on Tuesday, the SKM said in a statement here on Monday.

Attacking Union Minister for Agriculture Narendra Singh Tomar over his remarks on the farm laws, the SKM said, “The Minister is wrong in claiming that most farmers’ organisations in India support the new farm laws. We challenge him to present his evidence regarding the same, and it will become clear that less than a handful of organisations in India which might be in support of these anti-farmer laws, are associated with agri-businesses or BJP-RSS themselves, or don’t have any following.” Meanwhile, Jai Kisan Andolan (JKA) has extended its support to the SKM’s protest. “Jai Kisan Andolan has been leading the movement for justice in the Lakhimpur Kheri massacre from the front. We call forth all the farmers and the common citizens to join tomorrow’s nationwide protest,” said JKA president Avik Saha.
