Facebook has become ‘mouthpiece’ of BJP

New Delhi, Oct 25 (FN Agency) Congress leader Pawan Khera on Monday accused Facebook of acting as an ally of the ruling BJP and pushing its agenda, and demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the matter. “Facebook has become a mouthpiece of the ruling BJP, RSS and its affiliates as it is knowingly furthering their agenda which is filled with hatred and bigotry. It is acting as a tool of the ruling party. What right does the Facebook have to push a particular agenda and a particular ideology ? In India, Facebook has turned as ‘fakebook’,” Khera told reporters here. Referring to a research documents by a whistle blower, Frances Haugen, who had worked at Facebook, the Congress spokesperson said that the 37-year-old engineer had alleged that the social networking site was not equipped to filter hate speech especially in Hindi and Bengali and take action against such hate posts.

“India is Facebook’s largest market but despite of that it does not mechanism or human resource to filter post in Hindi and Bengali. Ninety one percent of your user base is Hindi or Bengali. Is it difficult to put people in place who can filter your post specially which are in Hindi and Bengali ? Rather, their own internal reports have identified fake accounts with over a million impressions, yet, it did nothing about it. This only goes on to prove that ‘fakebook’ is nothing but a subjugated vicious diabolical tool used by the ruling regime and its proxies,” he alleged. Attacking the Centre , the Congress spokesperson said, “Why the Government of India which is very loud on social media security compliance for twitter is silent on the same ? Because it suits their agenda. We demand a Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe in this matter.” The Congress leader also accused the Facebook of interfering in elections by influencing the voting behaviour of its consumers.
