Birla stresses need to preserve Vedic language

Panipat, Oct 21 (FN Agency) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday underlined that there is an utmost need to preserve and enhance Vedic knowledge besides acquainting the younger generation with this “priceless treasure”. The remarks from the Speaker came during his address after inaugurating the new building of Shri Krishna Ved Vidyalaya and Shri Banke Bihari Gyaneshwar Mandir here. “Apart from the Government, social and spiritual organisations will have an important role in this work,” Birla said. He called upon the stakeholders to establish institutions like Maharishi Ved Vyas Pratishthan in every State, which should teach Sanskrit and Vedic knowledge and contribute in making it a mass movement.

Emphasising that it is important to connect Vedic knowledge and teaching with the general public, Birla cautioned that unless it becomes a mass movement, it would be difficult to ensure proper study of Vedas. The Speaker said that it is the sacred duty of all to cherish our heritage, to take care of it, to pass it on to the new generation and that the future generations also have a right on it. Birla further said, “Spirituality, faith and reverence are prevalent in our socio-cultural life. If the credit for making us self-identified goes to anyone, then it goes to the saints and sages of India, who are the embodiments of renunciation.” The foreign invaders made efforts to destroy our culture but they could not succeed because our saints and sages saved it, he added. He hoped that the construction of these Vedashalas, the study and research on Vedas would definitely strengthen Ved Vidya in the country. Referring to the inauguration of the Gyaneshwar temple, Birla hoped that this temple would be famous everywhere as a centre of faith, spirituality and reverence. Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev, Swami Gyananand Maharaj and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
