Sensex declines 49.54 pts

Mumbai, Oct 19 (Agency) Snapping a winning streak of last seven sessions, the BSE Sensex on Tuesday dropped 49.54 pts to settle at 61,716.05 on profit booking by local operators. The Nifty of National Stock Exchange (NSE) too eased 58.30 pts at 18,418.75. Profit booking along with September quarter results dragged frontline indices from record highs today. The day opened on a strong note as Sensex rallied by 391 pts, breaching 62K level at 62,156.48 for the first time and registered days high at 62,245.43, days high. Later, it tumbled down nearly 171 pts to 61,594.29, days low, before closing at 61,716.05, sliding by 49.54 pts from its previous close. The Sensex registered days high and low at 62,245.43 and 61,594.29 pts respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 18,604.45 and 18,377.70 pts respectively.

The sectoral indices like Realty, FMCG, Metal, Materials and Consumer Durable stocks dragged the market. Even, scrips include ITC, Hind Unilever, Titan, Tata Steel and Ultracemco snapped the winning streak today. The Mid Cap fell by 1.98 pc and Small Cap by 1.79 pc. In 30 scrips, 14 advanced while 16 declined. Asian shares rose today, led by technology names across the region while Chinese markets were seen weak after disappointing economic data, while the improved investor confidence weighed on the safe-haven dollar. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan rose 1.05 pc. Japan’s Nikkei gained 0.59, with technology investor SoftBank Group leaping 3 pc. The Hong Kong benchmark increased 1.26 pc, while, the European markets were seen calm. All key indices, the FTSE 100, CAC 40 and DAX 30 were more or less unchanged.
