55-year-old held for robbing people after drugging them

New Delhi, Oct 18 (Representative) A 55-year-old man accused of robbing people by offering them cold drink laced with sedatives has been arrested from Model Town by the police with the help of a auto driver, police said on Monday. On Sunday, a man along with an old woman, who was unconscious at that time, hired Titu’s auto, for going towards Model Town. While driving, Titu found some suspicious activities of male passenger and heard the sound of the breaking of gold bangles of an old woman who also took the purse and gold earrings in his possession.

The auto driver acted smartly and remained calm and was observing the activities, he stopped his auto near gate no 3, Metro Station Azadpur, where police were present. After seeing the police, male passenger tried to run away, but the auto driver raised an alarm. Then police nabbed him at the spot and the old woman was admitted in the hospital for treatment, said Usha Rangnani, DCP, North West Delhi. The male passenger was identified as Gurmeet Singh, resident of Sector 44A in Chandigarh. During the search, a mobile phone, cash and gold articles were recovered from him. During interrogation, Gurmeet told the police that he used to intoxicate victims by making cold drinks mixed with Alprax tablets, in order to steal their valuables, said Rangnani.
