Cleanliness drive led by the homeless and children

New Delhi, Oct 10 (FN Bureau) Leading NGO working for the homeless Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan (AAA) on Saturday organized the ‘Clean India Drive’ at Roshanara Tomb (Garden) in collaboration with the Central District Magistrate Office and Nehru Yuva Kendra. The drive started early morning and covered the Roshanara Tomb and Garden, situated in Shakti Nagar on Roshanara Road. The members of AAA, chiefly the homeless people associated with the organization executed the movement along with the RWAs, Civil defence, Archaeological Survey of India(ASI) , and the students from Sarvodaya Vidyalaya of Roshanara Road to develop a sense of responsibility and mobilize the community members towards maintaining the heritage associated with the garden. AAA encouraged the participation of the community members as the organization is led by the principle of collaboration and promoting sustainable solutions.

The event commenced with the team members of AAA explaining the purpose of the drive and distributing PPE kits to the volunteers, followed by an oath-taking ceremony. After the oath-taking ceremony, all the volunteers/team members were divided into four groups, where each of the groups covered different areas of the garden. The teams collected plastic waste such as water bottles, packets of chips, toffee/chocolate covers, and so forth while cleaning and conserving the environment. Subsequently, the volunteers gathered in a reflective circle where some people reflected upon the drive and shared their opinions. Students shared the importance of conserving the environment and the climate crisis that India is facing. The elderly among the volunteers shared the importance of preserving the environment for future generations. Captivatingly, one of the volunteers spoke about the importance of cleanliness, highlighting the need for our minds and souls to feel energetic, fresh, and healthy.

The Clean India Drive concluded after the group discussions and aimed to educate people about environment conservation, bring changes, and build a sustainable world. Dr Sanjay Kumar, Co Director of Aashray Adhikar Abhiyan (AAA) speaking to UNI explained the main idea behind the exercise “the point of this entire exercise was that everybody, be it children, those who have homes or those who are homeless should take ownership of our city and be proactive towards saving the environment. Apart from RWA members, students and people associated with us and volunteers of of Nehru Yuva Kendra, random people came up and participated in this drive. This is the spirit that we need to ensure that we develop a sense of belonging towards the city, take ownership of the city that is needed to maintain high standards cleanliness and to check acts that are detrimental to the environment.”
