Mahatma Gandhi’s slogan ‘Health is Wealth’ very relevant in context of Covid-19

Panaji, Oct 3 (Representative) Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Friday said that Mahatma Gandhi’s slogan ‘health is wealth’ is very relevant in the context of prevailing Covid-19 pandemic. In his message on the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, the Governor said,’ His health slogan “It is health that is real wealth” is very relevant in the context of prevailing Covid-19 pandemic when each one of us should practice Covid appropriate behavior of safety and hygiene.” The Governor said the thoughts and deeds of Mahatma were so deep and vast that there was no aspect of life that was not influenced by Gandhian ideology. ‘His legendary tools of truth and non violence to fight for freedom have inspired so many leaders across the length and breadth of the globe in their struggles against injustice,’ he said. “Spinning and weaving was elevated to an ideology for self-reliance and self Government.

In his scheme of basic education Gandhiji wanted mother tongue to be the medium of instruction. He preached and practiced the values of cleanliness, hygiene and sanitation. Today Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is modelled on Gandhian principles. He wanted India to be free from the undesirable practice of untouchability. He fought for the rights of the downtrodden and weaker sections,’ the Governor said. He urged people and institutions to solemnly observe Gandhi Jayanti by organizing appropriate programmes and committing themselves to the practice of Gandhian principles. ‘Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for ‘Atma Nirbhar Bharat’- self-reliant India is the outcome of Gandhian thought and Indian ethos,’ Mr Pillai said.
