Dhakshish, Shravya emerge champs at KSLTA-AITA U-12 CS 7 tourney

Bengaluru, Oct 1 (Agency) Dhakshish Aryan made the most of his vacation when he annexed the Boys title steam-rolling past eighth seed Yashas Raj M in the Tattvam KSLTA-AITA U-12 CS 7 tennis tournament that concluded here on Friday. Florida-based Dhakshish won 6-1, 6-0 to take the crown. Shravya Numburi of Tamil Nadu dashed the hopes of local favourite and second seed Shrishti Kiran of making it a grand double when the Trichy girl took home the girls’ singles honours with a 6-0, 6-3 win. Dhakshish is visiting his grandparents in Bengaluru and entered the tournament just to keep his practice going. Beginning as a qualifier, he had felled three seeded players before he took on Yashas in the final.

Once he had tested his opponent’s strengths and weaknesses in the first two games, the 12-year-old didn’t give his rival a semblance of a chance to recover during the rest of the match with some handsome forehand winners to boot. The only drawback was his occasional weak serves, which resulted in double faults. The girls’ final saw the first two games being severely fought with both the opponents breaking each other’s serve before the 11-year-old Shravya took hold of the match with some great cross court winners. While Shrishti was just happy putting the ball in the court, her rival went for winners which swung the match in the visitor’s way. The second set saw the first six games being shared and a visibly tired looking Shravya won the seventh game after four deuces and that put her back on the course for victory.
