Chennai, Sep 30 (FN Agency) Union Finance Minister Ms Nirmala Sitharaman today lauded the efforts of the Income-Tax department in sustaining the momentum of tax collections even in this difficult year. On a day’s visit to the city, she held a series of meeting with GST, Customs and Income-Tax department officials. After a meeting with senior GST and Customs officials in the forenoon, the Union finance Minister held discussions with senior officials of the Income-Tax department in the presence of Union Revenue Secretary Tarun Bajaj.
During the inter-active session, especially with the young officers, she appreciated the efforts of the IT department in keeping up the momentum of tax collections even in this difficult year. She also the IT department to continue to work to ensure that post-Covid economic growth was maintained. Ms Nirmala Sitharaman emphasised that tax officers must act as agents of change to facilitate the transformation of tax administration as also to deliver improved tax payer services as enshrined in the Taxpayer’s Charter. Later, she inaugurated new residential quarters ‘Sigaram’ for the Income-Tax officers at the Aayakar Bhavan.
