Govt decides to allow women in NDA, ASG tells SC

New Delhi, Sep 8 (FN Agency) Government has decided to allow women in National Defence Academy, Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati told the Supreme Court on Wednesday. ASG Bhati, appearing for the Centre, informed the bench led by Justices Sanjay Kishan Kaul and M.M. Sundresh, said that the decision has been taken in consultation with the Armed Forces and government has decided to allow women for PC in the armed forces through the NDA and the Naval Academy. “I am delighted to share this. Girls will be admitted in NDA. We will place a detailed affidavit,” Bhati said.

The ASG sought some time to place developments on the affidavit. The Court expressed happiness on the decision, and said the matter would be heard again in the coming week. “We are extremely glad to know that Armed Forces themselves took a decision for induction of females and other issues,” the Court noted. The Supreme Court had earlier passed an interim order allowing women candidates to appear for NDA entrance exam. In another landmark ruling in February 2020, the Supreme Court had ordered that women officers in the Army be granted Permanent Commission at par with their male counterparts.
