Covid-19: At 47,092 India records highest single-day rise in over two months

New Delhi, Sep 2 (Agency) India logged 47,092 new COVID cases in the last 24 hours, the highest daily cases in over two months, the Union Health Ministry said on Thursday. The positivity rate of the infection rose to 2.8 per cent in the country, as per the Health Ministry’s bulletin. The latest addition has pushed the cumulative case tally to 3,28,57,937 whereas the death toll has climbed to 4,39,529 after 509 more people succumbed to the viral infection, according to the data. The active caseload stands at 3,89,583 after reporting a rise of 11,402 cases in the last 24 hours, the figures showed.

The share of active cases now stands at 1.19 per cent of the total Covid-19 cases, the ministry said. Meanwhile, 35,181 more people recovered from the Covid-19 in the last 24 hours making the recovery registry climb to 3,20,28,825. As per the data, the recovery rate is now reduced to 97.48 per cent. The Union Ministry stated that the weekly positivity rate (2.62 per cent) has been under 3 per cent for 69 days now. A total of 52,48,68,734 samples were tested up to September 1, 2021, for Covid-19. Of these, 16,84,441 samples were tested on Wednesday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR). India’s cumulative vaccination coverage has crossed 66 Crore (66,30,37,334) landmark figure after the country administered 81,09,244 vaccine doses on Wednesday, the ministry’s data showed.
