Odisha Vigilance arrest PS to member of OSSC in a disproportionate assets case

Bhubaneswar, Aug 1 (Representative) The Vigilance department officials today arrested Biranchi Narayan Sahu, the Private Secretary to Member Odisha Staff Selection Commission in a disproportionate assets case. The vigilance sleuths during search operation on Friday unearthed assets worth over Rs 3.79 crore including over 1.5 kg of gold ornament A case was registered against Mr Sahoo U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(b)/12 PC Act, 1988 as amended by PC (Amendment) Act- 2018. He was arrested and forwarded to the Court of Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhubaneswar. Vigilance sources here said simultaneous house searches were carried out on the properties of Mr Sahu at six places in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack yesterday following allegation of possession of assets disproportionate to the known sources of his income.

As many as three teams of Bhubaneswar Vigilance Division comprising 4 DSPs, 13 Inspectors and other staff conducted the raid. During the raid the Vigilance sleuths unearthed two double storeyed buildings ,two single storeyed buildings, 14 plots , one four wheeler, two two wheelers, Insurance deposits worth over Rs 56 lakh and over Rs 12 lakh cash from the house of Mr Sahoo . They also recovered Rs 13 lakh in cash from house of his relative , gold ornaments weighing approx 1.5kg worth over Rs.60 lakh and other movable and immovable properties, all totalling to over Rs 3.79 crore The officials also recovered recruitment related applicant admit cards and such other incriminating documents during the search operation..
