Modern way of life has rendered Sparrows homeless

Patna, Jun 27 (FN Agency) Veteran bird activist Rakesh Khatri on Sunday called for providing nests to Sparrows, as modern way of life has rendered them homeless. Rakesh Khatri has worked tirelessly to protect the sparrow from extinction and has the distinction of being named in Limca book of world records. Mr Khatri, popularly known as nestman, while addressing a webinar organised by “Hamari Goraiya aur Paryavaran Yodha”, said that modern way of life had created trouble for Sparrows who had been rendered homeless.

He said that people had the responsibility to provide nests to Sparrows to protect them from extinction. “I have made 1.5 lakh nests and also provided adequate food and water to enable Sparrows for their survival”, Mr Khatri said adding that unused and waste materials could be used for making nests for Sparrows. Youths and children were playing their vital roles in providing much needed relief to Sparrows, he further said that training is also being imparted for effectively supporting these birds. Director of Press Information of Bureau (PIB) Dinesh Kumar, while addressing the webinar, said that Sparrows needed nests, the same way as housing was required for man. There was a balance for all things in environment and it could have serious repercussions if any act of man led to its imbalance, he cautioned. Convener of the webinar and Assistant Director of PIB Sanjay Kumar, who had been making tireless efforts for protection of Sparrows and also motivating others to do the same, while speaking on the occasion, said that concrete jungles had posed greatest threat to survival of Sparrows. In the name of development, a large number of trees had been cut down which created troubles for Sparrows as they lost space to live in, he added. “Sparrows make nests in houses to lay eggs as their breeding season begins in November “, he pointed out. People should give priority for making arrangements for shelters of Sparrows in their houses, he stated.
