Guwahati, Jun 22 (Representative) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted raids at the residences of an owner of a prominent automobile company located in Guwahati. According to reports, the raids were carried out at the residences of the owner of Guwahati-based Ghosh Brothers Automobiles at Spanish Garden and Manik Nagar on Tuesday for allegedly swindling Rs 168.82 crore from IDBI bank. Sources said that the raids started in the morning and are likely to continue till late in the night. The CBI on June 2, had filed cases against four promoters / directors of Guwahati-based Ghosh Brothers Automobiles, a chartered accountant (CA), and unknown bank officials for causing a loss of Rs 168.82 crore to the IDBI bank.
According to the CBI, the persons named in the case are Pranab Kumar Ghosh, Pratul Kumar Ghosh, Gita Rani Ghosh, Prabir Kumar Ghosh, all promoters and directors of M/s Ghosh Brothers Automobiles, Arunabha Chattopadhya (Chartered Accountant) and unknown bank officials and private persons. The bank alleged that Term Loan and Cash Credit facilities to the tune of Rs 64.67 crore were fraudulently sanctioned to the private automobile company based at Betkuchi, Guwahati. The sum in question was obtained from the IDBI bank’s Guwahati branch for the purchase of vehicles. It is alleged that the accused availed loans by submission of false documents, and further indulged in a diversion of monies for purposes other than those for which the loans were sanctioned. A statement from the CBI said the cumulative loss to the bank as a result of these actions stands at Rs 168.62 crore, approximately, as on January 31, 2021.
