Four drug peddlers arrested in Kashmir, contraband recovered

Srinagar, Jun 16 (Agency) Police on Wednesday arrested four drug peddlers and recovered huge cache of contraband from them in two separate places in Kashmir valley. A police spokesperson said that following specific information, a checkpoint was established at Khanpora Magam in Handwara in frontier Kashmir district of Kupwara. “Police intercepted a vehicle at the checkpoint and during checking recovered 1.70 kg of Charas and cash amount of Rs 10730,” he said. He said three persons onboard the vehicle — identified as Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, Hilal Ahmad Rather and Sajad Ahmad Bakshi – were immediately taken into custody.

“A case FIR No 189/21 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Handwara and investigation has been initiated,” he said. He said all the three accused persons were busy in inter district trade of drugs. In another incident, a motorcycle was intercepted at a checking at Mirhama in south Kashmir district of Kulgam. “Police recovered 200 grams of charas from the motorcyclist, identified as Showkat Ahmad Zargar,” he said, adding the accused was immediately taken into custody. “A case FIR No 141/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation has been initiated,” he said. He said community members are requested to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood, adding persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law. “Our consistent actions against drug peddlers should reassure the community members that we are making efforts to keep our society free from the scourge of drug menace,” he added.
