Mumbai, May 17 (FN Bureau) The BSE Sensex on Monday posted a massive gain of 848.18 pts, breaching 49K level at 49,580.73 on the strength of Bankex, Finance, Metal and Power stocks. The Nifty gaine 245.35 pts to 14,923.15. The sensex jumped 258 pts to 48,990.70 in early trade. During the day, it spurted 896 pts to 49,628.52, days high, before closing at 49,580.73, advancing by 848.18 pts from its previous close. It registered days low at 48,923.13, days low. The sensex registered days high and low at 49,628.42 and 48,923.13 pts respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 14,938 and 14,725.35 pts respectively.
The sectoral indices that gained were Bankex by 3.98 pc and Finance by 3.08 pc. Metal, Power, Materials and Metal went up by more than 1 pc. The scrips that edged up were Indusind Bank by 7.46 pc to Rs 957.90 followed by SBI by 3.98 pc, ICICI Bank by 4.48 pc to Rs 624, HDFC Bank by 3.72 pc to Rs 1438.80 and Axis Bank by 3.43 pc to. 708.60. The scrips that fell were Bharti Airtel by 2.33 pc to Rs 547.50, L& T by 1.86 pc to Rs 1389.15, Nestle India by 0.97 pc to Rs 17050 and Maruti Suzuki by 0.42 pc to Rs 6710. The Mid Cap rose by 1.63 pc and Small Cap by 1.61 pc respectively. In 30 scrips, 22 advanced, 7 declined and one remained unchanged.
