Mumbai, Apr 16 (Agency) Deepak Chahar’s spell blew Punjab Kings out of the water as they fell to 26 for 5 by the seventh over and never recovered, despite Shahrukh Khan’s best efforts. PBKS bowlers started well in their defence of 106/8 on the tacky Wankhede surface, but Moeen Ali once again showed his batting worth at No.3.
There wasn’t any hint of dew in the second innings, like is usually the case at Wankhede as Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled to middle the ball for four overs. A bit of streaky proactiveness got du Plessis going in a 14-run over from Richardson, but Gaikwad was in the midst of a prolonged struggle, until he pulled the plug on it by hitting one short ball to the deep square leg fielder.
Brief Scores: Punjab Kings 106/8 in 20 overs (Shahrukh Khan 47; Deepak Chahar 4-13) lost to Chennai Super Kings 107/4 in 15.4 overs (Moeen Ali 46, Faf du Plessis 36; Mohammed Shami 2-21) by 6 wickets
