Over 150 cases registered for violating MCC: Delhi Police

New Delhi, Jan 14 (FN Agency) More than 150 cases for violating the model code of conduct (MCC) have been registered since the Delhi Assembly election schedule was announced on 7th January, Delhi Police said on Tuesday. “Nearly 105 unlicensed arms and 78 cartridges have been seized. Drugs weighing over 57 kilograms, worth more than 12 crore rupees, and cash amounting to over 1 crore rupees were seized during this period,” the police said. “Around 6,371 persons have been arrested under the provisions of preventive action and the Excise Act,” it added. The police also stated that more than 16,000 litres of liquor were seized between 7th and 13th January.

“To ensure free, fair, and peaceful elections in Delhi, we have implemented several measures, including increased vigilance at interstate border checkpoints and a crackdown on illegal activities, with a special focus on curbing illegal arms and liquor smuggling,” the police said. “We are also ensuring the effective and strict implementation of the Election Commission’s guidelines and adopting a zero-tolerance approach towards any violations of the model code of conduct,” it added. The Assembly election in Delhi was scheduled for 5th February, with the counting set to take place on 8th February.
