Chennai, Dec 16 (FN Bureau) The BJP was was making brazen attempt to push the ‘One Nation One Election’ with an ulterior motive of conducting a Presidential form of election and the Opposition INDIA will resist this anti-federal and impractical Bill in Parliament, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin said on Monday. Despite the BJP lacks majority is making a brazen attempt to pass the critical legislation that threatens to alter India’s polity forever. He also called upon all the democratic forces to unite and fight tooth and nail against thisabomination imposed in the garb of electoral reform, to save India, its diversity and theConstitution. In a post on X, he said INDIA will resist the anti-federal and impractical “One nation one election”as it will push the country into the perils of unitary form of governance, killing its diversity and democracy in the process. “The Union BJP government seeks to push it with an ulterior motive of conducting a Presidentialform of election, which is against the spirit of our Constitution”, he said.
The proposed Bill, if passed and implemented, will remove the legal checks and balances put inplace in the form of periodic elections by the framers of our great Constitution to prevent the country from slipping into anarchy and totalitarianism, he said. “Also, State elections would lose their political significance and regional sentiments and diversity would be destroyed”, the Chief Minister said.Asserting that the BJP lacks majority to pass the critical legislation that threatens to alter India’spolity forever, Mr Stalin said yet, a brazen attempt is being made to settle scores and deflectattention from the BJP’s failures to address core issues affecting the country’s progress.”All the democratic forces must unite and fight tooth and nail against this abomination imposedin the garb of electoral reform, to save India, its diversity and the Constitution”, he added.
