Gukesh wins final game, dethrones Ding Liren, becomes youngest World Champion

Chennai, Dec 12 (Representative) Indian Challenger D Gukesh dethroned reigning Chinese champion Ding Liren by winning the 14th and final round of the FIDE World Chess Championship in Singapore on Thursday evening. It was a proud moment in Indian sporting history, as Gukesh, at the age of 18, was crowned the youngest ever World Classical Chess champion. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin congratulated chess prodigy D Gukesh from the state on becoming the youngest ever World champion at the age of 18 on Thursday evening.

In a post on X, he said Gukesh’s remarkable achievement continues India’s rich chess legacy and helps Chennai reaffirm its place as the global Chess Capital by producing yet another world-class champion. He said Tamil Nadu is proud of his achievement. “Congratulations to @DGukesh on becoming the youngest-ever World Chess Champion at 18!.
