New Delhi, Dec 10 (FN Representative) The Army Service Corps (ASC) celebrated its 264th Corps Day on Tuesday with an awe-inspiring spectacle of skill, courage and endurance. At the heart of the festivities was the ASC Motorcycle Display Team, the Tornadoes, who etched their names into history by setting three Guinness World Records in a single day. The event, held at the ASC Centre and College and along the Bangalore-Chennai Expressway, served as a fitting tribute to the Corps’ legacy. Witnessed by dignitaries, including Karnataka Joint Commissioner, the Tornadoes showcased feats that combined precision, discipline, and an unrelenting pursuit of excellence. The day’s first record was set by Subedar Pradeep SS, who achieved the longest backward ride on a motorcycle, covering an extraordinary 361.56 kilometres.
This astonishing feat required not just immense physical endurance but also mental focus to navigate the challenges of riding in reverse over such a great distance. Havildar Manish followed with a daring display of control and balance, setting the record for the longest basic hands-free wheelie. His 2,349 meters ride was a testament to his technical mastery and the rigorous training the Tornadoes undergo to push the limits of possibility. Adding to the tally of triumphs, Sepoy Sumit Tomar executed the longest no-hands wheelie, covering a distance of 1,715.4 metres. The gravity-defying stunt highlighted the synergy between man and machine, a hallmark of the Tornadoes’ performances. The Tornadoes, established in 1982, are more than just a motorcycle display team; they are an embodiment of the Army Service Corps’ ethos. Their performances, often gracing national and international events, serve as a reminder of the relentless commitment and versatility of the Indian Armed Forces. Over the years, the team has built a reputation for setting records and captivating audiences with their synchronised formations, daring stunts, and innovative routines.
However, the achievements on Corps Day hold special significance, as they underscore the ASC’s ongoing dedication to innovation and excellence. Beyond the records, the event was a celebration of the Army Service Corps’ rich history and contributions to the nation. The ASC, often referred to as the “Lifeline of the Army,” has been crucial in ensuring seamless logistics and supply chain management for the Indian Armed Forces. The 264th Corps Day, punctuated by the Tornadoes’ record-breaking feats, served as a powerful reminder of the Corps’ unwavering commitment to service, resilience, and adaptability. The Tornadoes’ success is a reflection of the ASC’s larger narrative: one of innovation, discipline, and a constant drive to push boundaries. As the team continues to set new benchmarks in motorcycling and inspire the next generation, their achievements stand as a proud symbol of the Indian Army’s spirit of excellence. For the Tornadoes, the journey doesn’t end here. With each record they set, they reinforce their motto: “Riding Into History.” And with the 264th Corps Day as a backdrop, history was indeed made.
