Rahul urges Cong workers in TN to help administration in relief efforts

Madurai, Dec 3 (FN Agency) Senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday urged all the party workers in Tamil Nadu to step forward and help the administration in relief efforts wherever possible. In a post on X, Rahul Gandhi said devastating news of Cyclone Fengal in Tamil Nadu.‘My heartfelt condolences to those who have lost loved ones during this tragedy. My thoughts are also with those whose homes and properties have been damaged,’ he added.

Cyclone Fengal, which made a landfall in Tamil Nadu’s coastal regions on Saturday last has left a trail of destruction in 14 districts across the state, leaving 12 dead, causing widespread damage to infrastructure, properties and inundated crops raised on over 211,139 hectares of agricultural and horticultural land, besides 9,576 kilometers of roads, 1,847 culverts, and 417 tanks have been damaged. Chief Minister M.K.Stalin said the government will be submitting a detailed report to the Centre on the extent of damage caused by the cyclone and requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi for immediate financial assistance of Rs 2,000 crore from the National Disaster Relief Fund as interim relief that is urgently needed for the rescue, relief and rehabilitation works in the state.
