New Delhi, Dec 02 (Representative) Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned for the day on Monday, the fifth working day of the Parliament Winter Session 2024, amid protests and slogans in the both houses by opposition parties seeking discussion over the Adani issue, violence in Manipur and Sambhal.Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal introduced the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2024, in the Lok Sabha. The Bill passed its introduction stage through a voice vote amid ongoing protests.Meanwhile, the first week of the winter session witnessed repeated adjournments of both Houses with the Opposition MP, primarily from the Congress, pressing for a discussion on the Adani bribery allegations.Since the session began on November 25, the Opposition has created uproar over issues including Manipur unrest and Sambhal violence.
On the early adjourned Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi said that they have met the Speaker and their only demand is that he takes action to run the House smoothly. “We want the Speaker to run the House,” Gogoi said. Earlier when the house met at 11 am the opposition MPs stoop into the well and raised slogans “We want justice” forced the house adjourned till 1200 noon.In view of pandemonium in parliament, the leaders of the INDIA parties, after a meeting at the Congress Parliamentary Party office chaired by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi have decided to meet the Speaker to request his intervention in the smooth functioning of the House. Congress MP Manickam Tagore has given an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha to discuss the US’s indictment of Gautam Adani on bribery charge. DMK MP TR Baalu has also given an adjournment motion notice in the Lok Sabha to discuss the damage to standing crops and properties due to unprecedented rainfall and heavy flooding in the districts of Villuppuram, Cudalore, Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
