New Delhi, Nov 28 (FN Agency) Congress general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who took oath as Lok Sabha member on Thursday, said nothing was more important than the Constitution and she would raise issues concerning the nation in the House. Talking to reporters after taking oath, 52-year-old Priyanka said, “My priority will be to raise important issues concerning the nation. I want to fight for the country and the party”. When asked about taking the oath with a copy of the Constitution in hand, Priyanka said, “For us nothing is above our Constitution.
The foundation of our country is also our Constitution and we will fight for the principles of the Constitution and will continue to fight for it”. Priyanka took oath as Wayanad MP wearing a traditional Kasavu saree. Priyanka won the bypolls in Wayanad earlier this month by defeating her nearest CPI rival Sathyan Mokeri by over 4.10 lakh votes. The Wayanad Lok Sabha seat was vacated by Priyanka Gandhi’s brother, Rahul Gandhi, who had won from there in the Lok Sabha elections this year.
However, he opted to remain an MP from the Gandhi family bastion of Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli, which had also elected him.Earlier in the day, Priyanka met Congress MPs in the presence of CPP Chairperson and her mother Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. Meanwhile, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge in a post on X said, “I am confident that Priyanka Gandhi will become a strong voice of the people of the country, especially women in Parliament. Her able leadership, compassion, courage, determination and firm commitment to the principles of the Constitution will benefit the people of the country”.
