New Delhi, Nov 26 (Agency) The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced that the bypolls for six Rajya Sabha seats in four states will be held on December 20. The byelection will be held for three RS seats in Andhra Pradesh and one each from Odisha, West Bengal and Haryana. According to ECl, the polling will take place from 0900 hours to 1600 hours on December 20, while counting of votes will be taken up at 1700 hours in the evening on the same day. As per ECI, the last date for filing of nominations is December 10, and the last date for withdrawal of candidatures is December 13.
In Andhra Pradesh, three YSRCP MPs Venkataramana Rao Mopidevi, Beedha Masthan Rao Yadav and Ryaga Krishnaiah had resigned from Rajya Sabha, prompting byelection to elect the new members. In Odisha, Naveen Patnaik-led BJD MP Sujeet Kumar had resigned from the Rajya Sabha. In West Bengal and Haryana, ruling Trinamool Congress’ Jawhar Sircar has stepped down as the Rajya Sabha member while, BJP’s Krishan Lal Panwar resigned from the Upper house. Panwar quit the Rajya Sabha to contest the Haryana Assembly election from the Israna constituency.
