MPs should follow the highest standards of debate and dialogue: LS Speaker

New Delhi, Nov 25 (Bureau) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla urged all the members of the lower house to follow the highest standards of debate and dialogue in the house as the winter session of Parliament commenced on Monday. According to a source, Om Birla made these remarks during the BAC meeting on Samvidhan Diwas celebrations to mark the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution. He also recalled the glorious traditions of high quality debates by our founding fathers in the constituent assembly. In view of the Samvidhan Diwas celebrations in Samvidhan Sadan on Tuesday, he urged the members of various political parties to engage in a meaningful dialogue, sources said.

During the meeting he urged the members to convey their dissent in a constructive manner and said that they should avoid ruckus in the house in the name of protest. Constitution Day or Samvidhan Divas is observed annually on 26th November to commemorate the adoption of the Indian Constitution. In a bid to promote constitutional values among citizens, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment announced that 26th November will be celebrated, every year as Constitution Day. In 2015, as part of this endeavour to build awareness regarding constitutional ideals, the Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Samman campaign was launched.
